Freshers' Week

Taking place at the start of term, Freshers’ Week is one of the most exciting events in the academic calendar, offering new students (freshers) the chance to take part in various social events, join clubs and societies, make new friends and get university life started with a bang.

Although Freshers’ Week varies between universities, some events are common occurrences across all campuses, such as Freshers’ Fairs and Freshers’ Balls.

Freshers’ Fairs are not to be missed, offering an opportunity to sign up for as many clubs and societies as you can squeeze into your new bursting social diary and get your hands on some freebies and discount vouchers from local businesses, including shops, takeaways and banks.

No matter what activities and events you get involved with throughout the week, make sure you save some energy for the Freshers' Ball. Most universities hold one and they are always bursting with entertainment, from celebrity appearances and special guests to live music and after parties – the perfect opportunity to meet loads of new people and make new friends.

"The first week of university gives all first year students a chance to get to know each other and make new friends. This will help them to feel part of the university and integrate well. Freshers' week can have a positive impact on students and help them to sculpt their university experience."  Sean Dirrane, Student
